The technology demonstrator features Rheinmetall’s 6x6 Fuchs armored vehicle and Lockheed Martin’s Hellfire Longbow and Joint Air to Ground Munition (JAGM) missiles.
The UK-customized version will integrate Milrem’s THeMIS UGV with MSI's remote weapon station TERRAHAWK and Overwatch’s APEX unmanned aerial system, while Pearson will provide the integration of “mission-critical capabilities into armoured platforms.”
The first Romulus is expected to be completed in about 12 months and once production is up and running, the company expects to build up to six vessels concurrently and deliver four or five per year.
Skunk Works and BAE Systems will jointly collaborate on the family of air systems “in a way that is cost effective for our customers, easily deployable and has the expandability that is needed in the marketplace today,” said OJ Sanchez, Skunk Works general manager.
Iron Beam 450 derives its name from the 450mm aperture of the system.
